JVC

JVC (short for Japan Victor Company) is a Japanese brand owned by JVCKenwood. Founded in 1927 as the Victor Talking Machine Company of Japan and later as Victor Company of Japan, Ltd. (日本ビクター株式会社, Nihon Bikutā kabushiki gaisha), the company was best known for introducing Japan's first televisions and for developing the Video Home System (VHS) video recorder. From 1953 to 2008, the Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. was the majority stockholder in JVC. In 2008, JVC merged with Kenwood Corporation to create JVCKenwood. JVC sold their electronic products in their home market of Japan under the "Victor" name with the His Master's Voice logo but used the name JVC or Nivico in the past for export due to differing ownership of the His Master's Voice logo and the ownership of the "Victor" name from successors of the Victor Talking Machine Company. In 2011, the Victor brand for electronics in Japan was replaced by the global JVC brand. However, the previous "Victor" name and logo are retained by JVCKenwood Victor Entertainment, and are used as JVCKenwood's luxury HiFi marque. At the beginning of the 1990s, JVC ventured on publishing console video games using their main label in America while making parallel releases under the Victor Musical Industries and Victor Entertainment subdivisions. The very first releases under this denomination were games under the Star Wars license, on the SNES they would release the Super Star Wars series and Indiana Jones' Greatest Adventures. Occasionally they would also publish other miscellaneous games such as ports of arcade games. At the turn of the 21st century, there would not be more games published under the JVC label.

Hori

Hori Co., Ltd. (株式会社ホリ) is a Japanese peripheral manufacturer based in Kanagawa. They originally operated under the name Hori Electric Co., Ltd. (ホリ電機株式会社) until January 1, 2000. The company was founded on February 1970, starting off as a manufacturer and supplier of peripherals for video and audio equipment (e.g. TV and radio sets). In 1985, they entered the video game market with the release of various officially licensed Family Computer peripherals such as the Joystick-7, the Wing Commander and the S.D. Station. They have since released gaming peripherals for other hardware families, such as the PlayStation and Xbox, in addition to their continued support of Nintendo platforms. Some of their products were adopted by Sega and turned into first-party accessories, although most of them were released unlicensed. Despite supporting all of Sega's prior platforms, Hori never released any peripherals for the Dreamcast. However, they still released various Virtua Fighter-licensed peripherals for the later PlayStation and Xbox consoles.

The Software Toolworks, Inc. (often shortened to just Toolworks) was an American software and video game developer, originally founded in 1980 by Walt Bilofsky. He originally operated the company inside a garage at Sherman Oaks, California, but the company would later move to a proper office in 1983, later moving to Chatsworth and then Novato. Initially developing software for the Heathkit H89 microcomputer, they later expanded to games and other titles, including Mario is Missing, Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing, and The Chessmaster. In 1990, wanting to expand into console games, the company acquired Mindscape to utilize its publishing license with Nintendo. In 1994, Toolworks was acquired by Pearson, and was subsequently renamed to Mindscape.
