Sorti le 22 août 2007 sur PlayStation 2 et en arcade, Dance Dance Revolution Supernova 2 est un jeu de rythme de type arcade développé et édité par Konami, sous l'entité Konami Digital Entertainment. Ce titre fait suite à l'opus de 2006 présenté comme le plus abouti de la série à cette date, et propose une sélection musicale étendue ainsi que de nouveaux modes de jeu, le tout reposant sur le moteur Bemani Python 2. La campagne principale demande environ quinze heures pour être complétée.
Côté réception, le jeu obtient une note agrégée de 76,16. La presse spécialisée a livré des avis mesurés : GamesRadar+ souligne un contenu bien poli et fonctionnel, notant toutefois que la série s'est installée dans une routine confortable, tandis que PSM Magazine résume l'expérience comme étant exactement ce que l'on attend, offrant davantage de ce que les fans connaissent et apprécient. Du côté des joueurs, un utilisateur de Metacritic évoque son attachement durable pour ce qui fut sa première expérience avec la franchise, appréciant notamment l'accessibilité de l'option « Toute la musique » par défaut, alors qu'un autre commentaire se concentre sur le casting vocal japonais, citant Aoi Yūki, Haruna Ikezawa et Miyuki Sawashiro dans les rôles respectifs de Yuni, Emi et Alice.

« This was the first DDR game I ever played, and I still love it. I like that All Music is now a default option as it always should have been. However, the game doesn't bring much new to the table, to the point that the story mode got even simpler. Also, the DDR Universe song selection isn't what a lot of people are looking for, cheating you out of Pluto and many other good songs. If this is your first or second game, you should definitely buy it, but if you already own a few games, Stepmania with a USB mat connecter for your computer is much better. »
