Annapurna announces a collector's edition containing 12 of their best games, but should you buy it?
Two months from today it'll be Christmas Day, which is a terrifying realisation. But merch company iam8bit are hoping they have you covered if there's a big Annapurna fan in your life. They've just announced the Annapurna Interactive Deluxe Limited Edition Collection for the Nintendo Switch, which is such a mouthful that the title alone feels like it justifies a $200 price tag.Yes, the Annapurna Interactive Deluxe Limited Edition Collection for the Nintendo Switch will set you back $200 — equivalent to roughly £165 if you live in the UK, and that's not counting some potentially hefty international shipping fees if you live outside of the USA. Alright, that's not actually out of the ordinary for Limited-Special-Collector's-Ultimate-Editions these days, but I suspect it still feels quite steep to most of us.I'm not here to be snarky; I love Annapurna's curation of excellent indie games, and 12 of the greatest hits from the publisher's back-catalogue are included on the cartridge that's the centrepiece of this collection. With hindsight I think it's to their credit that my first response upon seeing the list of games was to question some big omissions: seriously, no Stray, no Gone Home, what gives? (OK, so Stray isn't actually out on Switch and iam8bit isn't a porting studio, but Gone Home is legitimately an odd one to miss out.) Read more
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and Hot Wheels coming to PC Game Pass soon
After a mysterious delay from December, arcade racing game Hot Wheels Unleashed will finally arrive on PC Game Pass in early February. I hear it's pretty good! It's one of the small handful of games Microsoft have confirmed as coming to PC Game Pass in the next fortnight, which also include the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure fighting game and a return to the subscription service for Darkest Dungeon. Alas, games coming mean games going. Do check out Donut County before it's swallowed by the abyss. Read more
The Medium and a bunch of Yakuzas arrive on Xbox Game Pass for PC this month
Microsoft have revealed the next load of games arriving on Xbox Game Pass for PC this month, and I think you Yakuza fans are going to be rather pleased. The Yakuza Remastered collection (containing Yakuzas 3, 4 and 5) will hit the subscription service on January 28th, along with Bloober Team’s brand new horror The Medium. On top of that, Donut County, and RPS fave Desperados 3 are on the way too. Lovely stuff. (more…)

« Donut County is short. It has little to no replay value. It feels like it squanders a great deal of its potential. And yet, Donut County is still one of the best games I’ve played this year. You may only get a few hours out of Donut County, but they’re a few great hours. »
« Laser-focused and brimming with charm, Donut County is one of the year’s best experiences. While brief, its laugh-out-loud sense of humor and laid-back, tactile gameplay combine precisely to create a game like no other. You’ll come for its physics based puzzle-solving, but you’ll stay for its quirky cast of characters and world. This is not a game to be missed. »
« It built a hilarious narrative around that silly concept and used that concept as a vessel for its heartwarming story and incredible humor that comes out in its writing and irreverent gameplay. For a game about garbage, its wholesomeness and “holesomeness” make it the very opposite of trash. »
« Donut County is a little short and peaks prematurely and I don’t care. I’ve never played a game where I control a hungry hole, think like a trash raccoon, or talk to friendly animals at the bottom of a cave. »
« If you’re looking for something that will challenge you and twist your brain into knots, this game isn’t it. There’s no real skill curve, and most of the puzzles are simple enough that you can more or less accidentally stumble on the solutions, with a few rare exceptions. But I assure you that from the first moment you tip something into that hole and see it grow, you’ll be hooked. »
« I wished the story was longer and the game had more things to do besides capturing things in a hole. But the story was lighthearted and the gameplay was fun. If you don’t have high expectations, I think you’ll find Donut County is a nice diversion. »
« Donut County is an excellent concept executed with pizzazz, personality, and an unexpectedly salient message at its core. While the end came abruptly and left me wanting more, like an endless mode or bigger levels to swallow things in, I can't deny the great time I had with what's there. »
« Donut County is a charming and straightforward example of how video games don’t need to be overly complex or contain multiple mechanics and systems to make for a good time. »
Avis des Joueurs (Metacritic)
« it's a pitty this game has too many conversations and then it doesn't give you big levels to devour items and become huge. It's based on small levels and they cut you down when the fun starts. I didn't enjoy it, however is not necessarily a bad game. »
« My personal favorite Indie! The simplicity makes the game engaging and always makes me wanna come back every one in a while! »
« I swear, I'm not giving every game I rate an 8, it's just so happens to be another 8 game. Donut County was such a fun game. It was colourful, it had a silly story with a silly town, the envrionment was great, the IDEA was great and espically the more... adult things in the game(Lookin at you bunny rabbits). What I didn't like however, was how much effort was put into the designs and story. I'm usually not a picky person when it comes to glitches or how something looks, but come on, you couldn't even be bothered to change how that little couple was watching tv when there house LITERALLY got destroyed. Don't even get me started with the honeycomb and the girl on the donut. It just feels like a slap across the face. Now, the story. Don't get me wrong, it's pretty good, but it just felt so off at times. Like, I didn't know what the hell was happening, who was that lizard guy inbetween the chef and the beekeeper? If they had a catapult the whole time, why didn't they just use that to get out? Just these little small things creating one big problem. But, with games like *Cough* concord *Cough* and games in general trying to be a bit too grim with there story telling, this was 100% a nice change in pace. Funny, lighthearted, silly mechanics. All round, a great, short game with a few minor problems. 8/10. »
« Donut County, küçükken oynadığım flash oyunları hatırlattı. Bir delik olarak her şeyi yutarak büyüyorsunuz. Oyun yaklaşık 1 saat sürüyor ve çok ekstra bir şey sunmuyor. Yine de tatlı grafikleri için göz atmaya değer. »
« I love hole games. I’ve played a couple on mobile and have wasted hours I’ll never get back swallowing up everything the games had to offer me. It was mindless entertainment and for me it was time well spent. Donut County seemed to offer that same kind of addictive gameplay loop but with some interesting puzzle-like elements thrown into the mix wrapped up in a weird, amusing little story filled with quirky characters and visuals that only indie games can offer up. So, I bought into it - and less than two hours later, I’d finished the game and had as left feeling completely disengaged, unimpressed and even a little annoyed at just how misled I was. The game certainly delivers on the weirdness, with a story centred around a girl and her best friend (a raccoon) who find themselves trapped beneath the surface of their once bustling little town with all of the townsfolk due to being swallowed up by a hole controlled by the raccoon. The game takes the player through various scenarios in which you are controlling the hole that eventually leads each character’s literal downfall (into the hole). Each scenario takes about two minutes to complete where you’re tasked with swallowing up a limited amount of objects on screen with each scenario offering varying and mildly interesting ways of using the hole to lay destruction. The ability to run rampant though and swallow up any and everything is non-existent. The methods you need to utilise in order to successfully complete each levels are extremely limited and linear and there is nothing to do in the levels except swallow up the few objects the game’s story presents - there are no collectibles and no alternative ways to complete a level. There is no feeling of freedom or choice. I was so bored and unimpressed that the almost two hour run time actually felt like a godsend for me - there is nothing to do beyond finishing the game either. No unlockables, no post game content, nothing. The only replayability offered is the couple of times I was forced to restart a level due to an item I was required to swallow up being out of bounds - meaning the hole I was controlling was unable to get past the invisible wall in order the reach the item that had flown off earlier on. The story offers nothing to satisfy gamers who finish the game either. Ultimately I was left feeling strangely empty and unfulfilled. I redownloaded one of the aforementioned hole games and started playing it to fill in the gap this horrible excuse for a game left within me. Unfortunately I can’t even recommend this game on sale. »
« A hole lot of fun--healing in the siliest way possible.I wasn't expecting this game to be EXACTLY what I needed, but it was.Donut County gave me the space to breathe, laugh and focus on something light but smart. The puzzles were creative and satisfying without ever feeling frustrating, and the story had just enough heart and humor to gently pull me out of my own head.I've been dealing with some grief and heavy emotions lately, and this game reminded me that joy and weirdness still exist in the world. There's something oddly comforting about cleaning up chaos with a giant racoon-powered **** you're looking for something short, sweet and quietly meaningful, this one is a donut-sized delight. »
« It's fun. I wouldn't call it anything groundbreaking or incredible, but it is a fun game. The story and humor is charming, and the gameplay while simple does get shaken up enough to stay engaing. Again nothing groundbreaking, but it is pretty fun. »
« The characters spoil the entire game for me; if they're not engaging, it diminishes my desire to play. In my mind, they all perished in that ridiculous final boss battle. »
