Description (IGDB)

Lead a band of misfits and outcasts on a perilous road trip across a Divided States of America, in a story-driven action-adventure about hope, friendship, love, robots — and the power of words.

Histoire (IGDB)

The year is 2030, three decades after the Broadcast. You play Pax: ex-con, outcast, con-artist, and Anomal with superhuman powers fuelled by disinformation. Your job: to transport a package across a divided America. But this is not a one-woman job. The fanatical Puritans are on your ass, the authoritarian Justice is in your way, and you’re four-months pregnant. You need help. You need a crew. Joined by a motley mob of misfits with their own weird powers, you must overcome the many obstacles that stand in your way — through manipulation, subterfuge, and force — to reach your final destination and escape your troubled past.

Description Steam (Français)

Free content update v1.14

Since launch, we’ve had a ton of ideas for things we wanted to add to Dustborn. And since the release of v1.8 last autumn, we’ve been bringing those ideas to life, piece by piece — improving the game in meaningful ways, with help from our players. We’ve even made our roadmap public, giving the community an opportunity to suggest and vote on the features, fixes, and additions you care the most about. The feedback has been both generous and helpful.Today, we’re excited to announce our biggest and most ambitious update yet: version 1.14 — available now! This update touches nearly every aspect of the game. Combat is punchier and more varied, with new hit effects, enemy types, and weapons — plus tweaks to timing, flow, and impact. Life on the bus is more dynamic, reflecting the choices you’ve made throughout the game. You’ll get deeper insight into each crew member’s Coda, and on your second play-through, you’ll finally get a glimpse into Pax’s previously hidden Coda changes. We’ve also added brand-new narrative content — including a fresh cut-scene in Maine — and made a ton of polish and bug fixes. There's a lot.For a look at what’s new in this update — and a recap of some of the most important things we’ve added since launch — check out our quick video summary:Dustborn has always been a passion project for our tiny team, and it means the world to us to see more people connecting with it. We’ll continue to listen, build, and share — with even more updates planned for the second half of 2025. So stay tuned! And as always: thank you so much for playing! We appreciate you.Change log — version 1.14Combat overhaulNew Justice enemy types, weapons, attacks, and combat challengesHits now spawn comic-style words like Wham!, Bam!, Thump!A whole bunch of tweaks to improve the feel and flow of fightsBus life improvementsThe crew will now use the gifts you give themThe bulletin board tracks memories and mementosCollected gifts appear on the busImproved dishwashing mechanics (seriously!)CODA upgradesAdded Coda text to the post-credits sceneYou can now compare your end-game Coda stats with other playersOption to disable Coda pop-ups (community request)On subsequent play-throughs, Pax’s hidden Codas can be toggled to visibleContent updates New cut-scene in Maine Dynamic title screen that evolves with your crewA LOT of bug fixes 78(!) bugs squashed — thanks to community reports on Steam and Discord

Dustborn update v1.12: March 2025

Dustborn Marches ever onwards (sorry) (Yes: we know it's April, the patch notes are coming in very late! No: this isn't an April Fool's post.) Our latest content update is a relatively minor one, but addresses something we’ve wanted to do for a long time: more Herald, more context to the Puritans storyline. We’re not done with this yet — we have some additional plans for the game’s ending — but the new Pax-meets-the-Herald scenes in issues #4, #7 and #10 add important details and context to a part of the story we weren’t completely happy with. Aside from that, there’s now an alternate way to enter the New Jerusalem mall, using Ziggy; the first of hopefully many radio broadcasts; and a couple of important bug fixes and optimisations. We hope you enjoy this (minor) update! We have something really special planned for our next big content update, scheduled for “spring 2025”. (Norwegian spring, that is. Our summer doesn’t really begin until June.) Change log — version 1.12 Content updates: New and updated Herald scenes in issues #4, #7, and #10. The first of several planned radio broadcasts added to the bus after leaving Liberty (issue #2). Alternate path to entering the New Jerusalem mall, using Ziggy. This path is Coda-dependent. Bug fixes: Fixed checkpoint saving for key moments. Resolved ME-EM “jiggle” issues on low frame-rates. Addressed several memory-related crashes.

Critiques de la Presse (Metacritic)

Gamepressure 85/100

« While its combat system leaves much to be desired, Dustborn is filled with a variety of fun elements focused on opening up to the people around you that truly helps the game blossom into a powerful experience. Once your trip is over you will definitely miss those you got to know, but you will be thankful you got on the bus in the first place. »

RPG Fan 82/100

« Dustborn is a game with a lot going for it, especially if you’re a fan of choice-heavy narrative adventures with a core cast of likable characters who develop a genuine and touching found family dynamic as they travel. It isn’t a perfect game, especially with its limiting combat component, but its strengths make it compelling. I came to care about Pax and her merry band the more I played, and that’s reason enough for me to recommend the game to those interested in it. The power of language and words can be frightening, but the tales they sometimes tell can also be wondrous and moving. Admittedly, Dustborn might not be for everyone, but it provides an enjoyable ride for those it does resonate with. »

Gamereactor UK 80/100

« If you like strong stories and games where your choices matter, Dustborn is for you. It's a game that's more about the journey and the people you meet along the way than action-packed battles or complex game mechanics. If you're looking for a game with deep and satisfying combat mechanics, there are better alternatives out there. »

Wccftech 80/100

« Overall, it was enjoyable to watch the relationships between the characters unfold. However, the prologue soured it early on for me, as it felt a bit too overexaggerated. The conversations and getting to explore new environments were some of the best parts of Dustborn, while I unfortunately found the combat system to be a little lacking in places. Still, the idea for this game is incredibly unique and one that I really enjoyed. »

The Games Machine 80/100

« Dustborn is a very strange game: in its narrative and graphic adventure component, the game is of unique beauty. Then every once in a while you get some fighting sessions that are really bad and you wonder why they included them. »

Shacknews 80/100

« It is rare for a game to be about something, to work its themes into every fiber of its being, to ask us to think about the world around us and reflect on who we are, the world we live in, and the things we’ve done to make it what it is. Dustborn does that, and it's special because of it. It doesn’t always work, but what it gets wrong pales in comparison to what it does right. It is a reminder that what we say and do matters. That, to quote Hemingway, “The world is a fine place, and worth fighting for.” That a better world is possible, if only we have the courage to build it, if we can find the right words to speak it into existence. Let there be light. »

Eurogamer Germany 80/100

« A warm-hearted road trip in a future that is as dystopian as it is optimistic, with very lively and varied dialogue as its greatest strength. »

Adventure Gamers 80/100

« Dustborn is a captivating narrative adventure that combines a rich, alternate history setting with diverse gameplay mechanics, delivering a memorable experience despite minor technical quirks. »

Avis des Joueurs (Metacritic)

« This woke garbage game full of lgbtq slop while making the white male the bad guys trying to protect the border is a total joke AND racist despite the black **** character getting a "that's racist" command towards the white male characters. The positive reviews from critics are all leftist septum piercing shrills paid to leave a good review in hopes we will play this woke trash »

Windows009 0/10

« Terrible writing, repetitive gameplay and annoying characters. Waste of time. »

baylenin 7/10

« I don't understand why this game is so badly recieved in the metacritic. This gem has a great story, characters and artstyle. I enjoyed the experience quite a bit. But I have to admit, combat mechanics aren't great, gets boring and repetetive pretty quickly. I also stumbled upon some performance issues during combat, but it was nothing too serious. If you are not against "woke propaganda" (just some inclusivity and anti government rhetorics) I definetly urge you to play this gem. »

Kavoka 10/10

« Great game, I really liked the active dialogue system, the characters can be interrupted by other people and then they can continue their dialogue. The story is quite easy and enjoyable, the leveling system is simple, and the music is good. I like playing music with the characters. I really enjoyed the game. Although they were a bit negative at first, we eventually became friends. The world is beautiful. »

san_dunai 10/10

« Maybe it's hard to get into the pace of the game from the first chapters but the further it goes the better all the elements become: conversations, interactions with incredible world and astonishing companions, even combat which may seem simple but it's really interesting. And the idea of language ruling the reality weaved into the plot is a mind-blower.10 rock bands out of 10! »

6instructor 0/10

« There are three things I hate the most in this world: authoritarianism, stupidity and bigotry. The people who made this game are so bigoted, they would go over LGBTQ+ people's dead bodies, if it would help them to make money. And they are stupid enough to believe the identity politics are the best thing that happened to humanity! Wow. This offensive, stupid game-lookalike piece of crap isn't worthy a serious review, because it's such an obvious attempt of cash grab from deluded wokists. If one day someone will be making a list of wokist games, this one will be at the very bottom of the **** barrel. Stay away, for your own sake. »

MessyStinkman 1/10

« I've definitely played games that looked bad, or sounded bad, or were insultingly poorly written, or just plain weren't fun. It's only rarely that you get a game like Dustborn that is all of the above at the same time. I would not play this game on a bet, I would not play it for free, I would not play it ever again. »
