Sorti le 24 décembre 2006 sur PlayStation 3, Gran Turismo HD est un titre de course et de simulation développé par Polyphony Digital et édité par Sony Computer Entertainment. Initialement annoncé sous le nom « Vision Gran Turismo » à l'E3 2005, le projet était présenté comme la version complète du Gran Turismo HD Concept et avait été exposé au Tokyo Game Show 2006 en vue d'une sortie mondiale prévue pour 2007. Cependant, en novembre 2006, le studio a choisi d'abandonner ce développement pour concentrer ses ressources sur Gran Turismo 5. Le jeu, qui tourne sur le moteur de Gran Turismo 4, propose une expérience courte estimée à environ deux heures pour l'histoire principale.
Côté contenu, les retours d'époque évoquent une dizaine de véhicules disponibles, sans compter les versions préparées, ainsi que le circuit court de Niger, jouable dans les deux sens. La presse spécialisée a livré des avis nuancés : Games Master UK soulignait en avril 2007 qu'il s'agissait d'une « brillante vitrine de la puissance de la PS3 » dont l'attrait s'essouffle rapidement, tandis que PSM3 Magazine UK jugeait le tout « extérieurement fade, mais finalement plutôt savoureux », saluant notamment les classements en ligne. Du côté des joueurs, certains ont défendu le titre en rappelant qu'il ne s'agissait que d'une démo gratuite, appréciant sa qualité pour ce format.

« It's really good for a free demo. This contains 10 cars (if you don't count the tuned versions of cars) and the Niger Short Track, in forward or reverse directions. The main mode of the game is Time Trial, which you go and get the best lap time on the track with. You can also unlock a Drift Trial mode, where you drift to score points. The graphics at the time look quite stunning, you can actually see the interior from the outside! However, this game is a bit too similar to the PS2 game, Gran Turismo 4. It has the same tyre noises and there's no interior view (which would be introduced in GT5P). Anyway, it's a decent game and you should get it at any chance, which you can't, as this game has been removed from the Playstation Store. »
« For a free game you get a lot. I don't call this a demo, it's just a small game to promote Gran Turismo. And I liked it a lot. Although this is not my genre so I won't be buying Gran Turismo. »
