Ico
Ico
Description (IGDB)
An action-adventure game in which a boy is abandoned and taken to a massive castle by his people. After exploring it for a while, he meets a girl who speaks a different language than him, then decides to get both of them out of the castle grounds by leading her along, in order to escape the shadow-like creatures that frequently try to kidnap the girl.
Histoire (IGDB)
Ico, a horned boy, is taken by a group of warriors to an abandoned castle and locked inside a stone coffin to be sacrificed. A tremor topples the coffin and Ico escapes. As he searches the castle, he comes across Yorda (ヨルダ Yoruda?), a captive girl who speaks a different language. Ico helps Yorda escape and defends her from shadow-like creatures. The pair make their way through the castle and arrive at the bridge leading to land. As they cross, the Queen, ruler of the castle, appears and tells Yorda that as her daughter she cannot leave the castle. The Queen destroys part of the bridge; although Yorda tries to save him, Ico falls off the bridge and loses consciousness. Ico awakens below the castle and makes his way back to the upper levels, finding a magic sword that dispels the shadow creatures. After discovering that Yorda has been turned to stone by the Queen. He confronts the Queen in her throne room, who reveals that she plans to restart her life anew by taking possession of Yorda's body. Ico slays the Queen with the magic sword, but with her death the castle begins to collapse around him; he is hit by falling debris, breaking his horns, and he falls unconscious. The Queen's spell on Yorda is broken, and a shadowy Yorda carries Ico safely out of the castle to a boat, sending him to drift to the shore alone. Ico awakens to find the distant castle in ruins, and Yorda, in her human form, washed up nearby. She stirs.

Critiques de la Presse (Metacritic)
« Easily the most addictive game I have played this year on either console or computer and would be a welcome addition to any adventure gamer's collection. »
« It's hard to express how stunning this game looks and sounds. [Nov 2001, p.158] »
« A game that just does everything right. Story, pacing, graphics, gameplay—all of these combine artfully to make a gaming experience that supercedes any other game I’ve come across this year. »
« Although short (about 10 hours of play, not including mistakes) it seemed just right and there’s probably nothing more that could have been added that would make it any better. »
« In an industry justly accused of leaning towards style over content, ICO is a beacon of light and a bastion of superb game design. »
« The graphics are quite incredible and makes great use of lighting, using bright, white-washed colors outdoors and dark, dingy ones inside. »
« Freaking Phenomenal...the closest thing to perfection yet. »
« One of the biggest things ICO has going for it is the incredible environmental graphics. The power of the Playstation 2 creates a world that you can almost feel and smell. [Grade = A+] »
Avis des Joueurs (Metacritic)
« Jogo maravilhoso, muito bom, história legal. . »
« Its a cute game, but I got some gripes. The platforming is janky as hell, and there were many times where I died cuz the camera made it hard to see where I was jumping to. Still, a cute story and great art design »
« maybe the best PS2 game ever released, and one of my all time favorite games »
« It deserves a solid 9. Great atmosphere and environment. Had some trouble with puzzles but handled it. Yorda was worth saving. Love you yorda!! »
« The most beautiful game I’ve ever played. Its ethereal, liminal aesthetic is what first drew me in, but it was the storyline and emotional depth that truly kept me coming back. As someone who isn’t usually a fan of puzzles or escort-style gameplay, I was surprised by how quickly this game made me forget about those aspects altogether. While I recognize it can be a hit-or-miss experience, the controls are admittedly clunky and the combat very minimal, but Team Ico truly crafted a masterpiece through their “less is more” philosophy. This game is a perfect example of how simplicity can be incredibly powerful. You won’t regret giving it a try. PS: I recommend playing the PlayStation 3 version. If you’re on lower-powered hardware, don't go for the NTSC-U/C release. The version is essentially an early build and feels unfinished, a result of the team having to meet tight deadlines. »
