Sorti le 3 juillet 1994 sur DOS, Jazz Jackrabbit est un titre mêlant jeu de tir, aventure et plateforme développé et édité par Epic Games. L'intrigue place le joueur dans la peau de Jazz, un lapin solitaire dont la mission est de secourir la princesse Eva Earlong, enlevée par Devan Shell, le chef des terroristes tortues, qui a envahi la galaxie avec ses sbires et menace la planète Carrotus.
Les avis de presse et de joueurs joints à cette fiche concernent une version Game Boy Advance. Le site Nintendophiles a salué une expérience renouvelée tout en conservant le gameplay classique de la série, alors que GameSpot a jugé que le manque de variété dans le gameplay limitait la durée de vie par rapport à d'autres références du genre. Du côté des joueurs sur Metacritic, l'accueil est très sévère : l'un d'eux estime que cet opus a causé l'arrêt de la franchise, un autre le décrivant comme une excroissance ne reprenant que quelques éléments de la série originale. Le jeu affiche une note agrégée de 81,55.

« If Jazz Jackrabbit had a tumor, the extracted and dissected lump would look a bit like this game. It basically takes one or two elements of the JJ franchise, grinds them up and spits them back at anybody who grew up with it. Jazz is now a cynical, retired bum who is working for the military now for some reason. All of the charm and lighthearted fun of JJ was buried in a desert somewhere in New Mexico after being burned to ashes. WTF happened, Jazz? Did you get fixed? Honestly, I have no idea who this game is supposed to appeal to, since the only thing this game accomplished was to turn JJ into a generic action platform hero, a ripoff duke nukem in the badly aged body of a childhood hero. The level design is horrendous and cheap and the game just seems to drag on forever. If I could choose between JJ dying with a dignified funeral or surviving to become this new sack of **** character, I'd poison his carrots myself. What an insult. »
