Outcast

« Outcast was years ahead of its time, delivering one of the first truly breathing open worlds in gaming history. »
« sci fi open world game before gta3 technically look unreal. espcially water look good. storytelling and acting like todays movie style games. it supposed to come sega dreamcast. even us offical dreamcast magazine back advertisement show cd cover of outcast dc version. remake and squel also good but feel same as playing on oucast 99 like entering vr game. music orchestracl score also feel lotr or star wars style movies. »
« I played through this game 3 times. Once when it came out. Then again a decade later, and a third time a decade after that (v1.1). It still holds up great. So much heart. While the new version supports higher resolutions, I'd urge you to play through it at 720. The janky graphics have so much character and just look wrong at anything higher than that. Definitely in my top ten PC games of all times. »
« This page is pretty silly. To give this game a 10 or a 9, you have to be COMPLETELY blinded by nostalgia. I got it on Steam for 3 bucks the other day, also due to nostalgia. I had the game on PC when I was 9 years old, but I was too young to figure anything out and was confused and intimated by the open-ended structure. The game was very ambitious for its time and unique in its usage of voxel graphics, voice-over work for every single character (though it's mostly terrible, e.g. there is no unified approach to the pronounciation of Talan words), and player freedom and choice. It was, however, already a total GLITCH FEST back in 99 and it has not aged well at all. The graphics are not pleasant to look at, the music is VERY repetitive and thus gets grating very fast and there is an INCREDIBLE amount of jank and bugginess to be experienced. I'm talking: The main character entering the swimming animation out of nowhere on solid ground, the game straight up crashing to desktop after a cut-scene, your Twon-Ha (basically alien horse) glitching out and not letting you ride it anymore, which means that you have to spend hours walking everywhere etc etc. I would really like to finish this game to tie up this loose knot in my gaming career, but it is reeeaaaally testing my patience with this BS. Also, it's a game that practically begs to be played with a guide if you want to complete the side-quests, because you can lock yourself out of doing some of them if you don't do things in the right order and also because remembering which Talan is who and wants what becomes almost impossible if you talk to too many, as they all pretty much look the same. in 1999, this would've probably gotten an 8 for its scope, dialogue, world design, and just straight-up uniqueness. Buuuuut it is 2020 and a 5/10 is really already pretty generous on my part. Sadly, the remake also doesn't seem to have handled things well, from what I've read. What a missed opportunity. »
« A very revolutionary game, brilliant sci-fi, combining many genres into one, the plot is also very good. »
« a sci fi game 90s hardware not ready to handle bcouse is so advence. one best sci fi game like look like another world 3d. voice acting dialog is best like kotor games. if it was rleased on xbox console become hit like kotor and morrowind did. »
« Outcast is an example of extraordinary storytelling. The whole world history is done from scratch. Developers made an enormous amount of work to breathe life in that project. Language, locations, religion - everything is perfect. For 1999 the game graphics were fantastic. The opening video still in 2019 looks cool. I wish there are more games like those now. Unfortunately, we will see no sequel, we will still have more commercial projects, not artistic ones like Outcast. But still, we have a chance to play it and play the remastered version. It's a miraculous game. I can't say less than that. »
« I rember being a kid, playing tomb raider 2 and thinking: this is great. But wouldn't it be even better if I could go were I wanted to? Then this masterpiece came along. The gameplay is a mix of Mass Effect 2 and Tomb Raider and is really solid even by modern standards. 3rd person shooting with climbing and stealth parts. Dialogues (of which there are many) are fully voiced. But the real star of the game is the beatiful world Adelpha and it's inhabitants. A colorful journey through the history, society and fate of an somewhat alien people and planet and a charismatic protagonist to boot make Outcast a Gem, that was hindered in it's Hall of Fame status by hardware issues and requirements and the Tomb Raider series in it's prime, against which it had to compete. It's 5.39€ right now. If you can bear older games, you need to give it a shot. World building and charisma are some of the best in gaming history. »
