Classic beat-'em-up revival Streets of Rage 4 has gotten a "long-awaited major update" that brings over 300 tweaks, fixes, and balance changes to the side-scrolling brawler. Released last Friday, the update makes some merciful changes to the game's combo counter, tweaks the game's characters in various subtle and not-so-subtle ways, and finally, finally lets you hurl your co-op partner at enemies like some kind of meat-and-bone ballistic missile. Teamwork makes the dream work... Read more.
Steets of Rage 4 gets a big update with more than 300 improvements, custom survival mode
Streets of Rage 4 has a brand new update, adding in a custom survival mode, co-op specific moves, and more than 300 improvements. Earlier this week, Dotemu released a big new update for Streets of Rage 4, giving the game a strong looking second wind. First up is the game's new custom survival mode, a new mode that lets players play for as long as they can survive for, with rules that they can fine tune themselves. Customisation options include things like choosing perks, the starting level, whether it's boss levels only, enemy scaling, hazards, destroyables, weapons, and whether you can even heal or not. Alongside this new mode is the big addition of co-operative moves. With this update you'll be able to do specific combos using different characters with a friend. You can see some of the different new moves included in this update in the trailer for the update above, a lot of which seem to be throwing your fight mate around the place while they prepare to do a big hit. Avis des critiques et joueurs
Critiques de la Presse (Metacritic)
« Streets of Rage 4 lives up to its namesake, delivering rock-solid gameplay in a gorgeously animated beat 'em up that serves fans and newcomers alike. »
« Streets of Rage 4 left me feeling like a ten-year-old kid playing his Genesis again, while still managing to bring modern gameplay and variety to a classic series. There was no way for me to keep my expectations low with this series returning yet Lizardcube still managed to blow those expectations away. I can say without hesitation that this is the pinnacle of a long-dormant series and genre; a game I'm confident I'll be returning to for years to come. »
« There’s not a bad thing to say about Streets of Rage 4. The action-packed gameplay and responsive controls give you an incredible, satisfying beat ‘em up experience whether you’re playing alone or in local or online co-op. The extra modes are fun, and the multiple difficulties are inviting, and each provide a unique dynamic. After 26 years, Streets of Rage is back and better than ever. »
« I think DotEmu and Lizardcube knocked it out of the park yet again. Clearly there was importance on being truthful to the series while adding in new elements to make the game feel fresh and exciting. »
« Overall, while it isn’t perfect and doesn’t quite feature some of the more versatile quality of life features in the genre – Streets of Rage 4 still delivers an incredible experience. The increased focus on the narrative works surprisingly well despite the genre being known for having razor-thin plots. The combat flows smoothly. Long-time fans will love the latest entry in the series, while newcomers may want to start with an earlier entry as some of the humor and fun is tied a bit too deeply into callbacks to really work on a series newcomer. The game looks great, plays even better, and has one of the finest OSTs in the genre’s history. The 25-year wait for Streets of Rage 4 was worth it. »
« Following up a series as renowned as Streets of Rage with a new entry is no small feat, but Streets of Rage 4 hits hard with its signature frantic action and stylish audiovisual presentation. »
« Streets of Rage 4 might be one of the pinnacles of the beat’em-up genre, seamlessly mixing arcade and co-op fun with absolute depth of visuals, a good soundtrack, and fantastic overall fighting design. »
« The artistic direction, the fan service and the gameplay strike with precision and rhythm to knock out fans who in front of so much mastery and love for the fight can only bow humbly before entering the ring feverishly. »
Avis des Joueurs (Metacritic)
« I have bought this game multiple times across different platforms and enjoyed it every time I have played it. It's not too long and just mind numbing violence is always fun. The art style is great and for a beat em up the controls feel clean »
« So the game is gorgeous and has a wonderful retro vibe, but it's a classic beat em up with the good and bad. This means that cheap hits can and do happen, difficulty is pretty doable and then Stage 12 exists to see how much you can hold until you either grind through or drop the game. But what I can say is that while other games invite me to push harder, explore more, and dig deeper, if you're in solo play, which I normally am, this game won't have much lasting power and the storyline is paint by numbers at best. Add a block/parry button and the game immediately becomes more enjoyable, but without it, it's easy to think that stages get cheap real quick and difficulty is arbitrary more than by design. In short, I think some tweaks would add plenty of life to the game and if you're into classic beat em ups, you will be a happy camper. »
« The hands down best beat em up game to ever exist. The art direction is on point, the fighting is fluid with rich options for customised move sets to suit player taste. The music is memorable and catchy. The characters unique and varied. Truly a master piece of gaming and im so lucky to have experienced playing this game over and over on multiple platforms. »
« I didn't expect a SOR sequel to be released again. If everything is handled correctly, it will turn out great. Sega has cooked it. Bravo! »
« Best of genre! SOR4 sets the new standard for the beat em up brawler genre...From the graphics to the gameplay, to the music. The DLC is nearly perfect. I've played brawlers since Double Dragon and Final **** SOR4 is at the pinnacle. The price tag is more than fair. »
« Lo acepto, nunca había jugado Streets of Rage. »
« Awesome to play with friends and incredibly fun but character roster is small which I know is a common trend in all the streets of rage games but I would like more characters available »
« I enjoyed SoR4 quite a bit until I got to the final boss, which is ten times harder than any other fight in the game and incredibly unfun to boot. Didn't die once at any other point in the game but was killed five times trying to finish it until I finally gave up. An absolute failure of game design and balancing. »
