Sorti le 6 novembre 2000, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2001 marque la première incursion de la série sur PlayStation 2, tout en étant également disponible sur PlayStation et PC. Développé par Stormfront Studios et Headgate Studios sous l'étiquette EA Sports, ce titre de simulation sportive propose six golfeurs professionnels évoluant sur trois parcours réels fidèlement reproduits sur leurs dix-huit trous : SpyGlass Hill, Pebble Beach et Poppy Hills. Côté modes de jeu, l'opus introduit les modes Défi et Partie Rapide, qui viennent s'ajouter aux classiques Match, Skins et Stroke.
Sur le plan de la réception, le jeu obtient une note moyenne de 65 sur Metacritic. La presse spécialisée a souligné son caractère accrocheur, Games Radar qualifiant l'expérience de « l'un des jeux PS2 les plus addictifs produits à ce jour », tandis que Gamezilla! notait que les adversaires contrôlés par l'ordinateur offraient « un niveau de défi décent » avec une variété de jeu appréciable, malgré quelques erreurs occasionnelles sur des putts faciles.
