Sorti le 20 août 2020 sur PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One et PlayStation 5, Train Sim World 2 est une simulation ferroviaire développée et éditée par Dovetail Games sous Unreal Engine 4. Le titre, qui appartient aux genres course et simulation, propose une évolution de l'expérience en mettant l'accent sur la maîtrise de locomotives légendaires au travers de services à grande vitesse, de fret long-courrier et de trafic de banlieue précis, le tout agrémenté d'outils de personnalisation avancés.
Le jeu s'articule autour de trois routes sous licences officielles : la Bakerloo Line du métro londonien, inaugurée en 1906, la Schnellfahrstrecke Köln-Aachen allemande où circule le DB BR 406 ICE 3M jusqu'à 250 km/h, et la ligne américaine de Sand Patch Grade traversant les monts Allegheny avec la CSX AC4400CW. Le roster inclut également la DB BR 442 Talent 2, les GP38-2, SD40-2 et le matériel roulant 1972 Mark 2 Stock. Côté simulation, le moteur physique SimuGraph® évolue notamment avec l'introduction d'une physique de l'adhérence réaliste, gérant le patinage des roues par météo difficile et les fortes pentes, tandis qu'un ciel dynamique multicouches et la compatibilité 4K soignent le visuel. L'interface a été revue pour une meilleure lisibilité des systèmes de sécurité, des commandes de frein et des indicateurs de puissance, avec un nouveau système de commandes offrant le choix entre mode caméra et mode conduite.
Cette suite introduit le Creators Club, espace central de personnalisation permettant de créer et partager livrées et scénarios via des outils intégrés. La Preserved Collection assure la rétrocompatibilité avec la majorité des extensions de Train Sim World 2020, à l'exception de Northeast Corridor New York, Amtrak SW1000R et CSX GP40-2. Le service en ligne Dovetail Live complète l'ensemble en suivant la progression, les statistiques et en permettant le partage de clichés Railfan. Le jeu propose par ailleurs des modules d'entraînement détaillés pour chaque locomotive et un mode Voyages offrant plus de 24 heures de scénarios et services, pour une taille de téléchargement de 9,6 Go et une recommandation d'utilisation de la disposition clavier AZERTY « Legacy » sur PC.
Techniquement, le titre intègre l'anti-tamper Denuvo et est proposé au prix de 17,99 EUR. La durée de vie pour l'histoire principale est estimée à 21 heures, tandis que la note agrégée atteint 86,75 sur 100.
Concernant l'accueil, la presse a salué un contenu solo équilibré entre défi et complexité, accessible aux néophytes selon PC Invasion, tandis que Digital Chumps a souligné un simulateur précis, impitoyable par moments, mais étrangement relaxant une fois la maîtrise acquise. Du côté des joueurs, les avis divergent : certains louent un simulateur très agréable doté de nombreux DLC et de bugs mineurs non bloquants, quand d'autres dénoncent une suite publiée sans corriger les défauts de l'opus original, la qualifiant de « buggy mess » motivée par l'appât du gain. Un avis positif sur Steam met en avant la qualité graphique en citant le DLC LGV comme le meilleur contenu additionnel.

« 1 балл за графику, она здесь отличная. Остальное просто ужасно. Почти каждое задание забагованно, дальше невозможно пройти, даже если загрузишь сохранение, перезапустишь игру, ничего не помогает. Одно задание требовало перепроходить его 5 раз по 40 минут, чтобы завершить. Еще одно совсем не смог пройти, около 50 минут, много раз коту под хвост, поезд не едет, все советы по перезапуску двигателей, все делал уже, не помогло. Бред полный. Разработчики наплевательски относятся к игре. Оформил возврат средств. НЕ РЕКОМЕНДУЮ покупать ни в коем случае. Только нервы потратите. »
« This is exactly what I was looking for as the Train enthusiast. I love riding London tube (especially that it is so similar to a real one). Other trains are also great. I am not expecting nothing more. Game becomes even better if you disable whatever possible to support you in the play. (looking at speed limits, red & green lights) to apply the right speed or to stop the train is a great thing. It is highly possible that I'll purchase more trains and routes within the game. It is important to note, that this game is not for everybody, if you are looking dynamic, action based simulation game with a lot of additional adventures this is possibly not for you. Apart from the above I like the game graphics, physics and overall experience. It never crashed on my PC and I’ve played it so far about 20 hours already. »
« it has good graphics but that's about it, there are so many bugs I went 1 meter over the red sign and I lose the whole challenge that took me 30 minutes to do and y the **** does the train engine turn of every time I pull the brake. overall its just stupid so don't waste your money on it, but if you want you can get it for free one epic games till Aug 6 2021. »

« they have only one train on all the map in "visit"mode. I think is a just like the firste. Is not a game is a game whith more dlc than game base. It like if you play simulator. But you not have multiplayer , not have eaysy mode, and for play with a fun train sorry but you need to payd 30 dollard for one new map. d'ont buy. »
« Es un simulador de tren. si eres un maquinista y en tu primer dia no sabias porque no avanzaba el tren... pues al menos ya somos 2. no se si sea porque oprimi el boton equivocado o un bug pero simplemente no se puede jugar. »
