Sorti le 14 juillet 2005 sur Nintendo GameCube, Dance Dance Revolution Mario Mix est un jeu d'arcade et de musique développé conjointement par Konami et le Nintendo SPD Production Group No. 2, sous l'édition de Nintendo. Le titre propose une adaptation de la célèbre série de rythme aux couleurs du Royaume Champignon, invitant le joueur à danser sur plus de 25 morceaux mêlant thèmes classiques de Nintendo et airs populaires, le tout via le Action Pad fourni avec le jeu.
Le gameplay repose sur l'enchaînement de flèches directionnelles selon cinq niveaux de difficulté, accessibles aux danseurs de tous niveaux. Un mode « Workout » permet par ailleurs de suivre les calories dépensées pendant les sessions. Côté contenu, l'aventure scénarisée voit Mario, Luigi, Toad, Waluigi, Wario et Bowser s'affronter pour récupérer les Clés de Musique volées, dont l'absence plonge le royaume dans le chaos ; la progression débloque progressivement de nouvelles chansons, mini-jeux et paliers de difficulté. Pour en voir le bout, il faut compter environ deux heures pour l'histoire principale, tandis que les complétionnistes y consacreront jusqu'à dix-sept heures.
L'accueil critique, reflété par une note agrégée de 72,28, s'est montré globalement favorable. La presse a salué un excellent rapport qualité-prix et un « festin auditif » pour les fans de Nintendo, recommandant l'expérience même aux néophytes de la série. Du côté des joueurs, les avis divergent : certains débutants y trouvent une entrée amusante et déjantée, quand d'autres regrettent l'absence de modificateurs de vitesse qui rendrait le titre moins agréable à jouer, un enthousiaste allant jusqu'à le placer au-dessus de références majeures comme GTA 5.

« While it may be a fun, wacky entry if you’re a beginner for the DDR series, I personally found this title to be quite unfun to play. From the lack of speed modifiers and being stuck on the Vivid arrows setting, to the tacked on gimmicks like the Mush Arrows, to the fairly lackluster, poor quality charts on any difficulty that isn’t Super Hard, this is certainly a title I don’t see myself replaying if I want to play a dance game. If I want to play an actually good Dance Dance Revolution game, I can just play the MAX games on PS2 or even head to a nearby arcade and play StepManiaX instead. Outside of a few decent songs and the occasional nice-flowing chart, this game doesn’t have much going for it. At least Waluigi is a more prominent villain in this game. It’s pretty cool to see him finally take the spotlight in a game! »

« Is this officially the weirdest Mario game in history of mankind. Indeed, it is. But that's not to say that it's a bad game in particular. The game is fun to play, and it'll really get you moving. It plays just like Dance Dance Revolution, but with Mario's mix into it, you'll be playing as Mario jamming to a bunch of remixed version of Mario music from past games. There is a story to it, and it's weird as all heck. Waluigi (yeah, WALUIGI) steals these things called the Music Keys in order to cause chaos across the world. So Toad goes out to find Mario to rescue these Keys and restore order to the mushroom Kingdom. I'm not exaggerating, that's the story. Don't be expecting any other bits and pieces of the story, 'cause that's pretty much it. (Other than a few cutscenes here and there) There's also multiplayer, allowing you to grab another friend of yours and (as long as you have 2 controllers) play competitively. The story and graphics are mediocre at best, but the gameplay is solid. If you love playing Mario games and listening to catchy remixes, this might be your jam! »

« This game has a decent array of songs, and numerous arrow gimmicks that normal DDR lacks. It also has a coherent story mode, and while not the best thing out there, compared to DDR's lack of any plot it is definitely something. However, if you've already played DDR and become good at it, you will be disappointed if you are looking for added difficulty. Even the hardest song in the game is no more than an 11 or 12 on the current DDR scale. »
« Surprisingly one of my favourite Mario games, I really love this game. The story is ok for a game, but it is good for a Mario game, and the best I have seen in any dancing game. I started playing this and before I knew it, over 2 hours had passed. Both Mario and Luigi are playable in story mode. I love this game, I really do. »
